GroundWork Renewables Announces The Appointment Of Jim Crimmins As Chief Technology Officer To Lead Tech Innovation

GroundWork Renewables, a leading provider of comprehensive solar data solutions for performance optimization, has announced the promotion of Jim Crimmins to the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Previously serving as Executive Vice President, Jim also heads the photovoltaic (PV) Test Lab in Albuquerque, New Mexico—an advanced facility for PV module and system performance testing, which GroundWork acquired in September 2024.

Jim brings extensive expertise in PV technology, module testing, and performance analytics. In his new role as CTO, he will oversee the integration of GroundWork’s data, laboratory, and field services into a unified technology framework. This strategy aims to ensure that all tools and insights function together seamlessly to better support solar developers, EPC contractors, module manufacturers, and asset owners.

Ann Will, CEO of GroundWork Renewables, stated, “Jim has long been at the forefront of PV performance testing, and his ability to identify what truly impacts utility-scale solar performance is unparalleled. As CTO, he will ensure that GroundWork stays ahead of the curve — delivering precision insights, tools, and accuracy our clients and the industry increasingly demand.”

Jim Crimmins, said in a statement, “I’m excited to take on the role of CTO at such a pivotal time for the solar industry. GroundWork is equipped to transform how the industry understands and optimizes utility-scale solar performance. By combining rigorous field and lab data with technical insight, we have the opportunity to elevate decision-making from development through operations. My goal is to ensure our clients get actionable, high-fidelity intelligence that drives performance, de-risks investment, and ultimately accelerates the energy transition.”

Before this appointment, Jim led CFV Labs—now part of GroundWork—where he built a strong reputation for delivering independent, high-quality evaluations of PV modules and systems. His leadership played a key role in positioning the lab as a trusted partner for stakeholders across the solar value chain.

The promotion aligns with GroundWork’s expansion plans amid growing demand for reliable solar performance data and diagnostic tools in a maturing market. As CTO, Jim will guide the company’s technological advancement, enabling it to serve a wider client base with even greater precision and technical depth, while continuing to uphold its commitment to quality and industry impact.
